Miss World 2004

I represented Czech Republic in the world famous competition Miss World 2004 from 7th November 2004 to 4th November 2004. The competition took place on the Chinese tropical island Hainan, in the City of Sanya.

The prime Finale was preceded by 6 partial competitions. All of the 107 girls took part in the competitions. The judging panel chose Top 20 group out of these girls, and subsequently it assigned the first three places.

The first contest was the Miss Beauty Beach consisting of Bathing Suit Parade on the beach. It was chiefly the evaluation of a figure and gait in a swimsuit. I was chosen to the Top 20 group. The winner was Miss USA.

The next competition was the Talent Show, which was similar to the Free Discipline in the Czech form of this competition - Miss Czech Republic. The most of the girls danced, recited poems, or sang. I played the piano (Waltz by F. Chopin) and managed to get on to final Top 20. The finals of the Talent Show were live broadcasted in China. The winner was Miss Antigua.

The following competition was the Miss Sport. The girls contested in: swimming, running, long jump and press-ups. The winner was, with a big lead, Miss Wales.

The Miss Fashion show has become the favorite contest. Not only it showed the ability of a girl to move on the catwalk but also the personal elegance of a particular girl. The task was to show 3 favorite design models from a private dresser of a girl: a day wear, a cocktail wear and an evening gown. Again, I was chosen to the Top 10 group and could experience the tension of the live broadcast, in which, eventually, Miss Mexico won.

The following contest was completely different. Each of us was to give a vote to the girl, who should, according to our opinion, become Miss World. Miss Australia had received the most of votes and become the winner.

The last competition was very interesting. The aim was to allocate a scholarship. The girls wrote up formal applications for a scholarship, in which we were to describe why we needed the scholarship and for what purpose it would be used. Subsequently there was an interview with the judging panel. As a Master of Pharmaceutics I managed to get on to the Top 5 with my application justified by my rigorous thesis focused on using implants as medicinal products. As it happens, the winner has become another Master of pharmaceutics, a girl form Jamaica.

The prime Finale of Miss World 2004 proceeded on 4th of December. During the Finale, the Top 15 group was selected. This Top 15 group consisted of the 5 winners from the previous competitions: Miss USA, Miss Antigua, Miss Wales, Miss Mexico, and Miss Australia. Ten more girls were chosen according to the number of votes of voting viewers from the whole world. Viewers could send their votes in previous 2 weeks via Internet, SMS, or phone calls. Voters could choose their favorites according to TV documentaries, which were broadcasted in some countries, and showed the run of the competition and introduced the girls. Thanks to my attendance in the Top 20 to Top 5 groups in the most of the contents, I got noticed by many viewers, who sent me so many votes, that I managed to be in the Top 15 group in the prime Final.

This Top 10 group consisted of Miss Peru, Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Russia, Miss Poland, Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Miss China, Miss Philippines, and Miss Czech Republic.

Eventually, Miss Peru was declared as a new Miss World 2004, the second was Miss Dominican Republic and Miss USA gained the third place.
